Sheldonian Theatre

A unique venue to host a variety of events such as musical performances, drinks receptions, dining and meetings. 3 different spaces that can be used in a number of different set ups. 

The Grade I listed Sheldonian Theatre is one of Oxford’s most recognisable landmarks with its stunning eight-sided cupola boasting a 360° panoramic view of the city and the fascinating Emperor Heads which sit atop the surrounding exterior wall. 

Designed by Sir Christopher Wren and opened in 1669 the building’s primary function is as the University of Oxford’s ceremonial hall but is also available as a venue for a range of dinners, receptions, talks and music events. 

We are also delighted to partner with the Bodleian Library to offer the Sheldonian Theatre as a drinks reception venue for weddings.

The main theatre has an audience capacity of up to 726 depending on the event type, and can accommodate up to 250 for a reception.  The Cecil Jackson Room located underneath is an ideal meeting or breakout space seating up to 60.  Above the theatre is the atmospheric attic and cupola which is a truly unique space. 

In addition to being available to hire for events, the Sheldonian Theatre also offer guided tours which are a great activity to incorporate into any event you are running in Oxford.

The Sheldonian Theatre is part of the Oxford University Event Venues portfolio which also includes the Examination Schools, St Luke’s Chapel, and Osler House.
