Read all about the refurbishment of the distinctive dining hall
In May 2018, just in time for the start of the summer conference season, Worcester College reopened its newly-refurbished dining hall, revealing an eye-catching new colour scheme.
The hall, which can seat up to 120 guests for dinner, was closed for 2 terms for the refurbishment.
This is the first time the hall has been refurbished since 1966, when it was returned to the original colour scheme designed by James Wyatt in the 18th Century. This entailed the removal of the panelling by the flamboyant William Burges, which was controversial at the time.
52 years on, the original Wyatt scheme has been brightened and embellished, picking out finer details in the decoration.
Caroline Trevers, Head of Conferences and Events at the College, says:
“We have kept close to the Wyatt palette but the colours are more definite and dramatic”
