Harris Manchester College Chapel Wins Oxford Preservation Trust Award
Harris Manchester College is delighted to announce that, in November 2025, the College received an award from the Oxford Preservation Trust in recognition of the recent renovations to the Chapel.
The project, completed in February 2025, was made possible by the generous support of benefactors from across the College community. The works focused on enhancing both the functionality and historic character of the Chapel, while respecting its architectural significance.
The renovation included the installation of new lighting, updated wiring, and live-streaming technology, alongside the careful restoration of the interior’s original features. As part of the project, the existing floor coverings were replaced with a new carpet made from recycled plastic bottles, improving both the Chapel’s aesthetics and acoustic quality. This award recognises the College’s commitment to preserving its historic spaces while sensitively adapting them for modern use.
The Chapel is a versatile venue within the College, hosting weddings and christenings, as well as talks and concerts. It is also occasionally used as lecture space for conferences, offering a distinctive and historic setting for a wide range of events.
