Read all about the recent transformation of the medieval dining hall.
The atmospheric dining hall at Magdalen College has recently undergone a transformation, just in time for the summer conference season. Guests to the hall will have the opportunity to view the intricately decorated hall in greater detail, thanks to the updating of the lighting systems.
Dedicated lighting now illuminates the portraits and other architectural features such as the beautiful vaulted ceiling and the colourful fine carvings on the screen under the gallery – lending additional intrigue and inspiration for anyone visiting the hall.
The project has also incorporated conservation of the predominantly 19th Century stained glass and the artwork, while a team of electricians have rewired the Hall and added a PA speaker system - ideal for speakers at gala dinners for up to 160.
The refurbishment and restoration of the hall brings out many of the features we pride ourselves on being able to offer across a wide range of our venues: traditional surroundings complemented by modern facilities.
